What OpenPulse was

At Jugend gründet, OpenPulse was still mainly presented as an open-source, modular fitness and health wearable. The original idea was to give users more control over their data, sensors, algorithms and hardware than closed consumer wearables allow.

What we learned

The biggest learning was that "everyone" is not a real target group. After the competition, especially through conversations at the Munich pitch event, we understood that OpenPulse needed a clearer market focus. This became one reason we shifted from a broad B2C fitness wearable toward a focused B2B platform.

What OpenPulse was

At STARTUP TEENS, OpenPulse was presented with the newer strategy: a modular B2B biosensor platform with interchangeable sensor pucks, open integration possibilities and data ownership for the customer. B2B became the primary market, while B2C remained secondary for open-source, privacy-conscious and quantified-self users.

What we learned

This competition helped us communicate OpenPulse less as a normal fitness tracker and more as a flexible platform. We learned that the strongest part of OpenPulse is not just "more sensors," but the combination of modular hardware, open software integration, data control and use-case-specific configuration.

What OpenPulse will be

For Samsung Solve for Tomorrow, OpenPulse will likely be presented in a version that fits the competition especially well. This does not mean changing the core OpenPulse strategy. It means adapting the framing for the challenge while keeping the long-term direction focused on modular B2B biosensor infrastructure.

What we want to learn

The goal is to test how well OpenPulse can be connected to a concrete social or practical problem, instead of only presenting the technology itself. This helps us become better at turning the platform into specific, understandable use cases.
